A4e stages UK’s biggest job interview

Friday October 3, 2008 saw over 70 A4e employees stage the UK’s Biggest Job Interview for job seekers at Manchester’s landmark Town Hall.

Several VIPs worked alongside A4e to offer advice on the day including the winner of BBC’s The Apprentice Tim Campbell, Lord Mayor of Manchester Councilor Mavis Smitheman, Paul Goggins MP and of course Founder and Chair of A4e, Emma Harrison.

Employers including British Gas, Royal Mail, Manchester City FC and Manchester Airport were interviewing for over 300 jobs at the Town Hall event, which was held in conjunction with Job Centre Plus.

Staged in the magnificent Great Hall, the event centred around one huge simultaneous job interview, started by Emma – and the help of a rather loud air horn and timed by an over-size clock.

Emma says: “You’re Hired! was an amazing event, not only for the hundreds of people who took the first steps in securing a job, but also for the atmosphere – the event had a real buzz about it. The job seekers made a massive effort in preparing for the interviews and all those high profile employers interviewing in one huge room made some real noise - the TV cameras kept everyone on their toes too!”

“The Lord Mayor gave a heart-warming welcome to the event, Paul Goggins MP highlighted the benefits of the partnership between A4e and Manchester’s employers and Tim Campbell offered some invaluable first-hand inspirational advice.”

The interview wasn’t the only thing getting people into jobs on the day, employers brought huge branded stands and were exhibiting throughout the day, giving out leaflets about the opportunities available at their companies and offering advice about getting jobs in their particular sectors, including retail, food and transportation.
