David's Story: “A4e’s contacts and resources made my job search so much easier”
David’s diabetes meant that he needed to have regular injections of insulin to counteract his low blood sugars, and he found that this affected his ability to work. He’d been unemployed for one and a half years and wanted a return to the warehouse work he’d previously been involved with, so A4e worked with David and helped prepare for work and sourced suitable job vacancies. As a result, he’s now back in full-time employment and enjoying his new role as an Industrial Door Assembler.
Bernadette's Story: “Going back to work after 20 years can be frightening, but A4e gave me the strength and knowledge to do it”
Having not worked since 1985, Bernadette took the decision to contact the A4e Job Broker Service to explore what help she could get towards moving back into work. Bernadette was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, so she was understandably nervous when a job interview date was arranged. However, A4e fully supported Bernie and helped her to have confidence in her own ability, to believe in herself and to appreciate that she has a lot to offer an employer. She is now reaping the benefits with a full-time position at one of the UK’s biggest retail stores.
Betty's story: “I didn’t think I’d get full-time work again, but thanks to A4e I’ve never looked back”
When Betty developed a repetitive strain injury and blood pressure problems, she thought that her chances of employment would be limited. Even though she had extensive experience in office-based positions, Betty believed her best option was voluntary work, however A4e encouraged her to consider an administrative role that would balance her skills with her recruitment requirements. The search proved highly successful and Betty is overjoyed to be working full-time once more, having secured a position in the HR Department of a large organisation.
Danielle's story: “A4e gave me the confidence to believe in myself again and find a job that I really enjoy”
With a customer service and administration background, Danielle found herself out of work for two and a half years after she was diagnosed as having psynchopy, a condition that causes chronic fatigue and blackouts. A4e helped with her CV and, with the help of the Action Team, researched the administrative positions and training options available to her. A4e also understood the need build up Danielle’s self-esteem before she could fully reintegrate herself back into work and so helped her take her first steps in a less demanding role to make the process more manageable.
