CC+ has made a major impact on building community cohesion

Connecting Communities Plus

A4e is managing a grant fund of £18m between April 2006 and March 2009, for organisations geared towards building good community relations and race equality.

The Connecting Communities Plus scheme is an integral component of the Government's stated aim to 'reduce race inequalities and tackle extremism'. The grant funding is for organisations across England that are committed to delivering projects and services that promote race equality and foster strong community relations. We are strongly committed to working with the Department for Communities and Local Government and through its partnership with the Active Communities Unit to ensure that funding is spent efficiently and has a significant impact on the individuals/organisations it is intended for.

An evaluation of Round 2 of Connecting Communities (2003-2006) has recently been completed by A4e on behalf of Communities and Local Government. Round 2 aimed to "effect an increase in strong minority ethnic community networks and to help ensure that the most disadvantaged minority ethnic communities and individuals acquire greater access to public services, and to have influence over policy makers and service providers. Empowering communities in this way will help enhance their welfare, educational, and employment opportunities."
