Alternative provision for schools

A4e offers a range of flexible activities to support young people who are not engaging in the mainstream curriculum or have been excluded.

Life Academy offers full and part-time education and vocational training at a fit-for-purpose facility. As well as offering ASDAN and work-related qualifications, the Life Academy aims to provide pastoral care and individual coaching to prepare students for further education or gainful employment.

Goalz is a multi-dimensional brokerage and training programme that removes barriers to positive destinations through motivational activities and structured courses covering complex topics such as Personal & Social Development, Understanding Anger, Coping With Stress and Consequences of Risky Behaviours.

Young people can also access preparatory qualifications and extended work experience through the Practical Learning & Placement scheme, and can try their hand at a number of job sectors and occupations at one of our centres on a Practical Vocational Activities course.

Both elements come with rigid quality assurance measures including:

• Contract in place with every young person
• Bi-weekly written review to school/referral agency, covering attitude, attendance and progress
• Rigid service level agreement (SLA) in place with all external providers where appropriate
• Monthly monitoring and quality management visit to ensure provider is adhering to SLA
• Health and Safety, data protection and child protection processes implemented to meet statutory and local authority regulations
• Quality standards implemented with all external providers
• Clear exit/progression plan with every young person
• Ongoing support in-school provided by A4e

Practical Learning & Placement Scheme
The aim of the project is to help those young people who would benefit from an alternative way of learning during their last 2 years at school. This is especially aimed at young people who would enjoy confidence building activities and working in small groups

The scheme offers a 1-3 day intervention per week and provides an introductory course in employability skills leading to an extended work placement with an appropriate company.

Practical Vocational Activities
A4e runs a number of centres that offer young people the opportunity to get a ‘hands-on’ taste of key employment sectors and jobs.

As well as the vocational skill development, the centres provide a non-threatening training and learning environment that allow the young people to engage with peers and adults to improve their aspirations and personal qualities.
