A4e is improving access to impartial financial advice across the country

MoneyFitness - helping people get their finances in shape

A4e is delighted to be delivering an exciting, financial information guidance service, called MoneyFitness, through the unique combination of phone, web and face-to-face advice. This pilot service will run until 17th December in South Yorkshire, Staffordshire and London.

The service will provide impartial and professional information guidance and tools on a number of financial issues from jargon busting to saving for a rainy day, buying a home and planning for retirement.

A4e Head of Advice Services Chris Peel says:
“We are very excited to be working with the Thoresen Review Team on the pilot projects as our experience of engaging with over 100,000 consumers annually has shown us that a Generic Financial Information and Guidance Service will help empower individuals with the ability to better understand their personal financial needs; the confidence to interact with the financial services market; and the capacity to improve their financial capability.”

A4e’s Project Director Jon Trigg comments:
"For most of us talking about our personal finances can be a very difficult subject, but making the right, informed decisions about what products are right for us and our families has never been so important. Whether you're changing job, moving house, starting a family or just struggling to get by like most of us, what people across the UK need is a neutral, independent service they can access when and how it suits them, talking a jargon-free language we can all understand. MoneyFitness will do just that."

The pilot will contribute to the Independent Review, commissioned by HM Treasury, into Generic Financial Advice (GFA) under Otto Thoresen, Chief Executive of AGEON UK. It is hoped that the pilot will help the Review determine the most appropriate and cost effective delivery model for providing GFA across the country. The Review will publish its interim report in the Autumn, followed by the full report in 2008.

A4e has been a longstanding advocate for a free, national financial service and welcomed the announcement from Ed Balls, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, for the government’s long-term approach to financial capability back in Jan 07. A4e is delighted to announce that it is one of the two agencies delivering consumers pilots of GFA.
